I've wanted to replace our tired and tatty sofas for ages, and had planned to buy mid century style (angled legs, 50s colour way) to replace them. I still love the way they look but now I've got to the point of actually spending the money I'm having a wobble about whether they've had their moment and will look dated very soon. We won't be able to afford to replace them for a good many years, so would it be wiser to get something more classic (which I can't help but think of as dull) - or if not, where can we buy something that looks modern rather than fashionable? Budget is unfortunately limited (think Ikea/DFS rather than Habitat/Heals) and we need to have a practical stain proofed fabric or leather rather than the gorgeous jewel coloured velvets that seem to be around.
