Anyone used chalk paint? (Rust-oleum)

Hi,
I've decided it's time to revamp my pine bedroom furniture and yesterday started using chalk paint on it. It started off really well but about halfway through the second coat the paint seemed to go on ok initially then was pilling near the end, giving it a really bobbly finish.
I kept adding water to the paint which helped a bit but I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing!
Anyone else have this problem?

I repainted a kitchen dresser last week with it and used it quite a bit in the past. I've only ever needed to use one coat though then wax it as I find it's quite thick and covers well. Does it need a second coat or could you get away with one?

We used it for the first time recently. We used spray cans. My husband's went on perfectly. Mine was a disaster. We then sanded mine back down and bought some more but this time not the spray. That went on really well. I still don't quite know what I did wrong but it was probably putting on too much and just not having the right knack. I am really pleased with the results now though.

I’m using it for the first time on some bookcases just now. It is quite thick I agree. I’ve now changed my mind about the colour I used too, so today will see if (hope) white covers duckegg in one coat. I’m going to try a roller this time too for a smoother result.

I used it on a mirror frame a few days ago and that came up very well but mainly because I distressed the finish. I think chalk paint can be tricky tbh if you want a smoother result. Depends on the look you’re after really.

I've used it - great stuff!

I always dilute with water for the first and second coats, so that they go on more smoothly.

I use a mini roller and still always have to sand it a bit.

I use the Annie Sloan chalk paint and it,has gone over (baked bean orange coloured) pine a treat. Two,coats though.

Have given up,using wax but use polyvine instead

Yes I'm going for a smoother finish so it does need two coats.
Interesting that you water it down poppins, maybe I will just continue doing that!
At first the paint seemed a lot thinner than later on so maybe I didn't mix it enough initially - I mixed for ages as I'd read you need to but clearly I should have done it even longer!

Yes, I found anthracite comes up very blue as opposed to dark grey and I didn't like the texture. Depends how you use it though I suppose
