Downdraft extractor anyone?

Apologies if this isn't in the right place but hoping someone can help out?

New kitchen being designed currently and will be having our stove and sink on the island (4m long).

We are beginning to sway towards having a downdraft extractor either pop up or integrated on the hob but struggling to find any concrete info so looking for some recommendations.

Does anyone have one? Does anyone wish they didn't have one? We don't cook much to be honest, maybe 2 or 3 nights a week but this will change as DS gets older, so don't need a mega extraction system.

Have an Elica Andante pop up and very happy with it so far.
It probably helps that I don't do a huge amount of pan frying and our kitchen room is also pretty large but sounds like yours is too.

We are tossing up between the elica and a Siemens pop up one.

Just like the idea of being able to have a lovely feature light over an island rather than a massive extractor.

What about building regs? You are required to have a certain strength of extractor.

We have one from Bora - its a downdraft, built into the actual hob.

Its completely fabulous.

It is in our kitchen island - and is ducted under the floor to the outside.

You can get them built into the 'feature light' you have described, but they are ££ if i recall.

We have very very high ceiling so it was never an option for us to have an overhead type one.

I have a neff one that was installed 4 months ago and so far I love it. I cook a lot so it is used everyday a few times and I’m in the habit of giving it a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth and just fairy liquid water before putting it down every time so it remains spotless easily. It is very good. My bedroom is right above the island (sounds strange I know!) so we do need it to be very good at removing cooking smells - and it is.

I have one. It was installed about 6 months ago and I use it when frying or cooking lots of pans. I have a sloped ceiling above so would have been difficult to put one from ceiling and it would have drawn the eye. Mine is a cookology one from amazon which was a fraction of the Neff prices (£399 for a 90cm one) and I haven’t noticed it being any worse.

The builders did say the instructions were dreadful and they had to do some internet research for fitting but it worked in the end. It does take up more space underneath than you would think, there is the unit and the motor and the ducting (mine ducts outside)

We have the Siemens one, ducted under the floor to outside. It's pretty good although because it's behind the hob it doesn't quite catch everything like an overhead one used to in the old kitchen. But we definitely didn't want an overhead island extractor so that's the trade off. Would recommend having it ducted to outside if you're having the floor up and can do it.

Thanks everyone, it will be ducted outside likely. DH is a building surveyor so is quite tight on what would pass regs. We currently have the flooring up to lay underfloor heating and our designs have been drawn around where to put sockets and holes for extractors etc.
We need to make a decision tonight because our kitchen will be cut to fit appliances as our electricians and plumbers are fitting the appliances, not the kitchen supplier.
We also have a sloping ceiling above the island which was the main reason for not choosing an above head extractor.
@SignedUpAgain , we had looked at those but they don't pick much up and our ceilings are quite high in the extension so it would get a bit lost.

Sorry to bump a dead thread but keen to hear how this worked out for you OP! Which did you go for in the end and are you happy with your choice?
