Best wall colour for basement flat

White is bright but so harsh and boring.
What is the best way to brighten up a small basement flat? There is a bit of light from a courtyard but it doesn't get much sun.

Very light yellow, like primrose or a cream shade I think.
You cant have anything darkish or it will look dingy. Or do 2 walls white and 2 another light colour.
