Should I have grey grout for my new tiles? With photos!

I’m changing the tiles in the kitchen from a tan brown colour square to a white brick style. I have an older house and it needs more light. The tiler suggested grey grout as it won’t discolour. I just wondered if it would look too modern or would date?

One showing the colour of tiles we are replacing and one the newest style on the worktop. We haven’t bought the tiles yet, it’s just a sample. So I’m open to suggestions.

We've had exactly that done- it looks fab but ours is very modern

We've got those tiles with grey grout in the bathroom. House was built in 1906 and I wanted to mix trad and contemporary in the bathroom. Love the grey grout and planning this for the kitchen too but tiles will be flat not bevelled....

We have it in our kitchen, quite a dark grey, looks great. Old house but modern kitchen

I like they grey grout look. My big concern is that if there are any errors or little bits that are slightly off it will emphasise them. My room probably isn’t straight because it’s old.

I have it in my victorian cottage kitchen and I don't think it looks modern at all

I’m in the middle of having bathroom done with same tiles and grey grout. Main decider for me was discolouring of the grout in the shower. Looks fab imo

Grey grout is a lot more forgiving than white at showing/hiding grime

Topps Tiles do a light one called Gunmetal which is great and goes with most tiles

We've used Grout 3000 (was recommended to us by the tiler) and comes in quite a few shades of grey (plus other colours) so have a look and see what shade you like.

Tilers will always recommend using jasmine (grey) grout for some reason. I’ve had tiling done three tiles and asked for white grout and everyrime they’ve had a proper strop about it (different tilers each time)and insisted I’d regret it. I haven’t, they’re not floor tiles and even when it does get grubby it scrubs clean easily enough.

I know everyone has different tastes but just didn’t want you to be swayed by the tiler! Does anyone know if white grout is harder to apply or something?

Just noticed you’re using white metro tiles. In which case grey grout would definitely look better. But if you’re worrying about a kitchen looking dated I wouldn’t recommend metro tiles. Even new builds are getting metro tiles as standard now.

We’ve just had the gunmetal grout done in our bathroom, I love it. The bathroom isn’t finished yet so I did not know how it will hold up, but it looks nicer than the white

I've got grey grout in the shower and I bloody hate it. I think it discolours more and nothing seems to shift it. Would never have it in a limescale prone area.

Jasmine grout isn't grey - it's cream. We have it with cream tiles in our kitchen.

I don't think metro tiles are dated - it's a classic design. I think some of the strong colours date because they are what is fashionable for a period, e.g. lime green.

Anyway, the grey grout looks fab in all those pictures.

Yes, I have it on my bathroom. It really makes white brick tiles pop
