Arts and Crafts style wallpaper

I'm looking for the holy grail it seems: arts and crafts style wallpaper in light, neutral colour at less than £30 a roll because we will need around 25 rolls. It's for a large hall, stairs and landing in an Edwardian house. We have oak bannisters and woodwork and dark red carpet we will not be replacing.

Any ideas anyone?

Crown flora nouveau wallpaper from Go Wallpaper Ltd is £15.99 a roll and comes in 3 different colours. Worth a look? Would sit well with your hall I think. Try any of the online wallpaper suppliers. I can’t vouch for the quality.

Ooh - thanks @Oddbutnotodd. I like the natural version but think the strong pattern would be hard to sell to DP. Told you I was looking for the holy grail! But I will look at art nouveau papers too.

A few suggestions:
clara
aimee

BigFatBloomers · 25/04/2018 13:28

pushkin

Or were you looking for something more Morris-like?

BigFatBloomers · 25/04/2018 13:41

acanthus
moorland

@BigFatBloomers (great username) those are fab - thank you. I ordered a sample of Moorland at the weekend and some designs similar to the Clara from Laura Ashley. Sadly the Pugin features green and DP vetoes pretty much anything green in any shape or form. Plus the half of the wallpaper I haven't stripped yet is painted emerald green. Yes, emerald green with red carpet! Not our doing. We saw past it when we were house hunting.

Not Pugin - Pushkin!!

Glad I was on the right track.

That’s sounds a bit like our Edwardian Hall. It was goldy yellow above the dado and dark red below with a patterned red carpet.

The carpet has to stay for a while (until we’ve finished decorating upstairs) but the colours were swapped to white almost as soon as we arrived!

Hello @BigFatBloomers - the samples arrived yesterday. The Aimee is not a big enough pattern for the space. The Acanthus is lovely - probably needs to be in darker colour to show up, but I like it. The Clara is kind of flocked with sparkly bits(!) but has great definition from a distance. I ordered the Heathland, which I love, from the website (thought I'd done that the week before but it was still in my basket) but they sent me iLiv's Havana instead so I've emailed them.

My instinct is to go with fairly subtle but I'm finding it needs bigger patterns and more colour than I thought.

Flicked and sparkly, who’d have thought it?!

Thanks for the update. Hope Moorland is the one but I guess that may also be too small a pattern.

I like acanthus. Is there a colour that you’d be happy with?

wowfudge · 02/05/2018 10:29

I think the darker background of Moorland will work as the one they've sent by mistake is the same colours but palm leaves and butterflies! Similar size pattern by the look of it.

I've looked at the other colour ways of the acanthus and think we need something in between the light and strong colours they do. The red would work but with red carpet it would be rather in your face!

Oh good. Fingers crossed for moorland then.
I thought the same about acanthus.

The two samples arrived today. It's fab and the colour really works. DP's comment was, "I'd prefer it without the animals". The big eejit.

Sounds like he’s going to have to get used to the animals!

So glad it’s nice.
