Kitchen - lamproom grey and Wimborne white

We've ordered our new kitchen.

Base units are Lamproom grey. Wall Units are off white.

White subway tiles

Should we match the wall colour with the units (Wimborne White ish) or go for a colour. I feel a colour might be a bit much.

The room is North East facing so needs a bit of warmth.

Can I ask what type and colour worktops you're having? That'll help me advise in wall colour if I can....

Still undecided. I would like light grey, DH wants wood. I think wood will be too difficult to look after.

Ok, well we've had the kitchen debate / decision in our house too recently. In the end, I've decided on wood effect/laminate worktops in a light oak. I honestly thought they were real when I saw them. BUT if you've decided on light grey, then I would go for more of a colour on the walls. You will have white metro tiles to break it up and it will be a good contrast with the white walk units. With the warmth you're looking for, I'd have a look at the colour 'families' for lamproom grey on the f and b website. I'm thinking something that is the equivalent in depth of skimming stone iyswim. I will have a look and cone back to you

Just had a a quick look..skimming stone would actually work really well, or have a look at purbeck stone. I have skimming stone in the lounge and it's a lovely warm greige.

That looks good. Purbeck stone looks nice.

Our sitting room which you can see from the kitchen is quite a strong yellow and the Hall is a mid blue (was supposed to be pale but I told the decorator the wrong colour) so I think we need to keep the kitchen nice and neutral.

I think that either purbeck or skimming would work alongside both the hall and sitting room. I'd get testers of both, paint a big piece of paper with each and aswell as checking them in the kitchen, hold each up against the walls in the other rooms...

Actually, either would fit well with the stronger blue in the hall...you might be glad you ended up with the wrong blue now!

I'm quite tempted to repaint the sitting room purbeck stone too.

We've had the yellow for about 5 years when everyone said I was insane. Now it's everywhere I'm a bit over it.

Well the beauty of f and b colours (and most paint, in fact) is that the same shade changes in different light and in different rooms so the sitting room will probably look like a (very carefully chosen) variation of what's in the kitchen.

I also like the look of Pale Powder but not sure it will work with any of the other colours except the white.

I'm useless at paint colours. I always pick a colour I like and never think of the flow!

We had pale powder before we redid our kitchen, it's a pretty colour but definitely green, I think with yellow and blue it might look too much.
A composite/ marble like worktop could look nice.

F&B Blackened would work well, and pick up and reflect the olive from both kitchen and hall.

The olive? The colour!

I looked at blackened but thought it might be too cold. The kitchen is north facing and doesn't get much natural light. At the moment it's Trade magnolia and looks like Prisoner Cell Block H.

Haha! Cell Block H to be avoided!

I have used Blackened in various situations and have found it very adaptable, hence recommending it - it picks up surrounding colour more purely than anything else I've used, and in my opinion doesn't look cold - but does look very clear and fresh. It definitely isn't warm though - more a pure neutral, which isn't for everyone of course.

Farrow & Ball also put lamproom with Ammonite which looks similar.

Yes, ammonite would definitely work. Even though whatever you use may not have a strong definite colour, the fact that the upper cabinets and tiles are white will make it stand out as a stronger shade. Plus it'll to be with the lamo room grey of the base units. What flooring are you having?

We need to decide on flooring but thinking if one floor throughout kitchen, sitting room (double doors into kitchen) and hall (doors into kitchen and sitting room)

So probably an oak Karndean or similar.
