Pale wood effect porcelain floor with wood (effect) worktops? With pic

Hi, we are replacing our kitchen floor and worktops..and have a dilemma. Lots of pictures I've seen have the wooden floor matched to the worktops but I'd hoped that not having an exact match might work. In the attached pic, the lighter is the floor and the darker is the worktop. Cabinets are currently painted a pale cool cream (dulux heritage York white) tiles will be white metro with a coloured grout-pale grey or taupe) just wondered what your thoughts were on this? 2 different shades of wood or not? Thanks in advance.

When we were looking for wooden flooring, all the design websites said don't look for a perfect match but complimentary tones. I think that looks lovely.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment-i appreciate it as It's a big outlay and decision for us as it's a large dining kitchen and a real gesture if the house. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and people tend to gather there so it's not just something I can shut the door on as you need to go through it to go out the back or into the utility room. Think I'm just concerned about worktop being warm and flooring cool (even though the shade is called light beige it looks more greyish) any opinions welcome before we take the plunge and order....

OP I'm just looking to do something similar and have chosen a pale beige oak floor. I'm also looking at wood effect worktops but it looks like I am keeping my existing units. Where are your worktops coming from if you don't mind me asking and what shade?

Hi Conor, worktops are from b and q, 'Arlington Oak'-v realistic, so much so that I thought it was real when paired with units in display...

I'd go for cool for work top and floor as your paint is cool. Definitely lighter floor and darker work top

Ah thanks Russell, I'm thinking that the 2 examples in the pic work then? We will also be having white metro tiles so I think the worktop in the pic should work/contrast with those too. If the worst comes to the worst and it looks wrong, we can always have the units repainted walks are currently a dupe if f and b clunch.

This is what it looks like now. Units were dark wood when we moved in. Tiles will be white metro with pale grey/beige grout, then worktops and flooring as per pic in o.p. handles to be changed to cup handles too.

Lovely room and the doors look great. The tiles and handles you're getting sound perfect as well. It's a bit hard to tell from the top pic but the worktop looks quite warm, is there a more neutral oak effect in that range?

Yes isn't it? I'm conscious of the fact that cool and warm shouldn't be mixed and could well be jarring but the worktop does look slightly less warm in real life...plus, as there will be such an expanse of shiny white tiles and the units and walks are pale shades, I'm thinking that a little warmth might not go amiss although it'll be so hard to get right. There is a more "bleached" oak colour in the same range but I think that may be too matchy and maybe too cold with everything else. Thank you for your time though Russell, it's appreciated!

The other worktop is called maple creme but there wasn't a sample of that in store, also think it may make the whole thing more 'cool and contemporary' than I'd like.

I'd go for the original ones then. You're having my fantasy kitchen except I'd have turquoise doors and red stove. Yours will look lovely!

Go for it Bluesheep8. I have white shaker style units with colmar oak effect laminate. I made a last minute decision on the floor and chose a very similar wood effect floor tile to the one you are thinking of going for.

My kitchen is small and the combination of darker worktop and lighter floor works very well. Putting a floor that was as dark as the worktop would not have been so nice.

The two wood effect tones look lovely in the daytime and lovely at night with either main spotlights or just under cabinet lighting on.

The only initial regret I had was the wall tiles. I thought afterwards I should have had trendier tiles, like metro ones but the ones I have did grow on me.
