Anyone tried removable wallpaper? Any recommendations?

We are renting and have a really dated kitchen. The fridge freezer broke and the agents arranged new one, but the old doors don't fit - the freezer/fridge split is wrong! The doors are ancient and can't be found to buy. It's a white plastic wood grain effect kitchen, gone yellowed with age.

So our agent's handyman found replacement doors from Ikea and whilst he fitted them beautifully, they look awful! They are dark grey, nearly black, and they seem to suck the light out of the kitchen, which was darkish to start with.

I was thinking of putting removable wall paper over them to tone down the blackness. We have black worktops and tiles. The blind (which we bought to replace the broken vertical blinds) is a pretty mid grey with a cream pattern that looks slightly Moroccan.

Anyone know if removable wallpaper would work on cupboard doors? Any suggestions for makes, or patterns? I don't mind if it needs redoing every so often. The kitchen is a bit grim but the location and the rest of the house is great, so we'll be here for a year or two yet.

Have you looked at fablon, rather than wallpaper? I just cant see how wallpaper would be water/heat resistant in a kitchen.

I did look at fablon, and was a bit worried I won't be able to get it off at the end of the tenancy.
