BIG sofa!

We have a newish sofa, which (to me) looks lovely and is sooo comfy. However, it’s massive and bulky, and we just a small living room. It’s a light grey colour with black/ dark grey cushions.

Is there anyway to make it suit the living room better?! We are planning on painting/ papering all the walls white, and have bought lighter curtains.

Any tips to make a living room look larger/ more open.

If the sofa is out of proportion with the room, I don't think anything to make it appear proportionate.

However, things that could help a little bit is painting the walls a similar colour to the sofa so that it doesn't stand out so badly and adding mirrors. Here's a picture of mirrored alcoves- they make the room look more spacious.

You could make it the big feature of the room.

Tbh we did the same as you - got a lovely sofa but didn't really think of proportions. It was too big. We used it for years though but sort of made it the centrepiece of the room. We were relieved when we got rid of it eventually and measured the space very carefully when picking furniture from then on.

It’s just a photo off the internet but the room is pretty small- looks 3m wide but helps that it’s been knocked through.

With a knock through and the right size furniture + mirrors, you get this sort of space in a 2 up 2 down.
