Vintage sofa

Thinking of getting a vintage (poss late 19th century) vintage horsehair stuffed sofa I've seen on eBay to go in my new kitchen extension. Never had anything like that before. Any thoughts on pros and cons?

You know it’ll be uncomfortable to sit on? If you just want it for dressing then go for it but if you’re expecting to be able to sit down with a cuppa and your feet up I wouldnt bother.
If it’s local though you could always ask the seller if you could come round and sit on it to try it out?

That's the thing, it's an hour and a half away. It's mainly for dressing buuuut I want to be able to sit and read a book looking out on to the garden through the big patio doors so maybe not the best idea...

I would love a sofa in the kitchen but wouldn't spend much on it as it would soon absorb the smell of chips and burnt toast.

If it's horsehair inside and it's that old, I'd be concerned about flees and other little tenants. On the smell front, we have an upholstered bench and cushions in the kitchen and they don't smell at all (admittedly a large kitchen with not much cooking going on).

Lumpy, itchy and uncomfortable imo

I'm having real trouble finding something tasteful, in a dusky pink that's not velvet. Mainly because we have a dog. Also possibly smells but it's a large room with efficient extraction right over the hob so should be okay. Made.com have some gorgeous stuff but it's all velvet. Love velvet but dog will ruin it.

Have you got a budget in mind? There are many sofa shops that offer bespoke sofas - you could choose your fillings + get thousands of options of fabrics. But it's a pricey option - probably 1k+ even for a 2-seater.

Didn't really want to spend that much @JoJoSM2 was thinking more £500 as it's not our main sofa (is sofa no 3 actually! That makes us sound lazy!) and I'd be even more upset if our ill disciplined dog got his paws on it!

Why not look on your local Gumtree for a sofa?
That way you can go and have a look/sit before you buy.
I have found several decent sofas that way, good quality brands as well as IKEA.
