It's for above a fireplace. I've had my eye on it for a while but I guess it's a bit impersonal.

Otherwise possibly thinking of something like this

Honestly I'm rubbish at all this home decoration malarkey.

Room is decoration neutral with very light seafoam colour cushions and curtains.

If you are going for a very plain neutral look then I guess it would work. It’s a bit ‘meh’ though. Have you looked at anything that would be more of a statement piece? An actual piece of art maybe to liven the room up a bit?

Sidge · 26/03/2018 17:45

It's a bit bland for me; mind you I've got this in my downstairs loo so what do I know?

My lovely gecko

I'd prefer something a little bolder over the fireplace; my house is very neutral but I like something colourful on the walls. I've got some Scott Naismith prints on canvas which are stunning.

GummyGoddess · 26/03/2018 17:47

If you like it then have it, it's your home. It's not very interesting for me to look at, I prefer colours, but I don't live there.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 26/03/2018 17:49

No.

You did ask for honest replies!

But I’m of the ‘put up something that means something to you or that you love’, I’m not one for Next matchy, matchy decor.

Have you got a photograph you’ve taken on the beach you could get blown up in black & white?

MinaPaws · 26/03/2018 17:50

I like it but it's more suited to a bedroom or guest room. It's a bit quiet for over a mantelpiece in a main room. You could get some big pieces of art work that mean a lot more to you. A friend bought big canvases from Tiger and got her DC to decorate them abstractly in colours that worked with her room. They're framed on the wall now and look fantastic.

Sleepygiraffe · 26/03/2018 17:50

I thought it was a bit bland, though I do like it all the same. My living room is looking nice but quite bland.

I'm not sure what I like, I don't mind honest opinions I need inspiration.

Boring AF.

But I have a 5ft picture of a t-rex chasing a rusty campervan so maybe I'm not the one to ask.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 26/03/2018 17:52

Incredibly bland and generic.

I prefer bolder art that suggests the inhabitants have some kind of personality/taste/aesthetic.

FleurDelacoeur · 26/03/2018 17:55

It's very bland. If you buy it, you can guarantee that three other houses in the street have exactly the same thing. Next is the epitome of bland and impersonal.

Get yourself down to your local charity shop. They will have lots of pictures and stuff to put on your wall, not all of it will be to your taste but you will be certain that you'll get something different.

FleurDelacoeur · 26/03/2018 17:56

Sidge - love the gecko. DS has something similar on his bedroom wall but it's orange/red.

insancerre · 26/03/2018 17:58

Its very boring, sorry, but you did ask
Maybe try somewhere different to next

MammaH2018 · 26/03/2018 18:00

It’s pretty boring/generic and a bit childish - like something you you see in a tweenage girls bedroom

MammaH2018 · 26/03/2018 18:01

Have a google to see if you can find an image of someone/something/a place you love - then see if you can get it on a canvas. It’s pretty cheap and will at least be something personal and of interest to you

SingaSong12 · 26/03/2018 18:01

I quite like it generally but it's a bit bland if your room is already neutral. I like the idea of the frames because you can add individuality through what you put in them.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/03/2018 18:03

No, very boring ...
@Sedge, loving the Gecko !
@Sleepygiraffe, that's what you need. 😄
Your living room sounds lovely, there's lots of wall art in The Range, if you have one nearby.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2018 18:15

It's not for me either, I'm sorry. I prefer something less mass produced. I find art from places like next or matalan is very generic and forgettable..

Have a look at Etsy, some great artists on their selling their work and I've bought some fantastic originals at great prices.

In addition There are some great shops on line, where for the same price or less you basically pick your painting, from some very famous ones, to some very unknown ones and have it printed the way you wish and framed as you wish. So it always looks unique and not something that was churned out in a factory.

So I'd spend some time looking for something you love and will hang on your wall for a long time.

The first art I ever bought was about 4 foot long and 1.5 foot wide and was a limited number framed print of a black and white charcoal drawing of woman, she wears nothing but a blanket round her waist and is turned to the artist disdainfully. 26 years and several homes later and she lives on the wall half way up the stairs in my current home, because I still love it. That's what buying art should be. Something you love.

scrivette · 26/03/2018 18:21

It is a bit bland, an unusual mirror would be better.

bluemoonchances · 26/03/2018 18:22

Are you anywhere near a homesense store or txmaxx? They usually have nice pictures in that are different from your general high street stuff. Pop in every week and something that catches your eye will be in stock in no time!

AnotherDunroamin · 26/03/2018 18:23

I don't like the butterfly thing. The photo frames thing could be quite nice - you can make it less generic by putting interesting pictures in it.

ShatnersBassoon · 26/03/2018 18:27

They're dull and impersonal. Buying decorative items because they're unnoticeable defeats the purpose.

PortBlacksandGinResidence · 26/03/2018 18:29

How about some nicely framed posters from your favourite films or album covers. Things that make you smile.

mimibunz · 26/03/2018 18:33

I agree about nicely framed posters or art posters. There’s some gorgeous art out there. Museums sell art prints that you can have framed.

PortBlacksandGinResidence · 26/03/2018 18:33

For example among me and friends we have Beatles album covers, Led Zep, the Wildhearts, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly trilogy film posters etc. And tour posters for Jimmy Hendrix.

Needn't look studenty if its in a good frame.

Vitalogy · 26/03/2018 18:40

I like it but don't think it's big enough. If in doubt large mirror.
I like the sunburst mirror in your first link other stuff.
