Little Greene Hicks Blue - just on stairwell or landing too?

The hall downstairs is F&B Dimity, and the stairwell and upstairs landing are currently two other deep but bright colours that I don’t like (painted by previous owners). I want to keep the Dimity downstairs and repaint the stairwell in Hicks Blue but can’t decide whether to paint the landing in Dimity or the blue - I am concerned that going upstairs would look like going into a dark box... House is old, and has high ceilings and white woodwork. Thanks.

Our hall, stairs and landing are all one colour. There didn't seem to be a way of finishing one and starting another without it looking odd. Come to think f it, we did the same in the last house. Are you sure it looks good to change colours every few metres as you walk up?

It could work if you did it as a hard stripe in the same tone rather like this or verticallybut it would have to be done professionally.

We have a wooden ledge along the stair wall that provides a dividing line, so it has the downstairs hall colour underneath the ledge and a darkish colour going up to a very high ceiling above, and then another darkish colour on the other three walls of a galleried landing. It maybe sounds odd but it works, I just don’t like the two upstairs colours/having three colours, so want to repaint. However, I’m wondering if having the stair wall above ledge, plus landing walls, in Hicks Blue would look like going up into a dark box!

I just googled Hick's Blue and realised we had a room painted in it :) Yes, it's very dark. Don't know how good your natural light is or if you have tons of artificial lighting that you keep on in the day, but it could be difficult to see where you're going.

There’s lots of natural light but it might be difficult to see at night, I hadn’t thought of that Maybe I need to look at some other darkish blues!
