Hi, I fancy something like this for my kitchen but the tiler has said that as It's such a big space, the tiles are too small and I need to look for larger ones(?) I think they are 33 cm square and I plan to match the grout to the grey of the tile. Any thoughts? I think the kitchen is about 13ft by 12.5 ft plus there is a small utility.i like the idea of a patterned floor as we are having wood effect worktops and I thought wood effect tiles would look too much/clash with them. I also need something easy to keep clean. All suggestions welcome!

Not sure why tiles are too small apart from the extra work for the tiler... but it's not an uncommon pattern so you might just need to shop around a bit or ask another tiler. I love the grey and white though - clean and classy.

Thanks for replying..Yes I wondered about the extra work with the grouting etc. The tiles we have at the moment are much bigger, probably more than a foot square but I would guess the 33 x 33 are more a standard size. This is the type of look I want though-subtle pattern in an otherwise plain and neutral kitchen so I'm still going to keep with that theme. Btw, the tiler has even offered to come with me to look at tiles so I'm pleased about that.

Those tiles are lovely and sound like they'll go really well in the kitchen. I can't see any reason for having bigger ones apart from them being less work for the tiler! Maybe worth getting some quotes from another tiler?

Yes, interesting what you say about his reasons for commenting on the size. We do want him to do the job too as we have been pleased with his previous work in the house. Think it might be because he has already quoted for the work and will have based it in the type of tiles I was initially looking at. I will talk to him to work out his reasons. Thanks again.

I really don’t understand his reasoning at all (apart from him thinking they would take him a long time to lay and grout, perhaps?) You

May struggle to find any similar patterned ones in a bigger size. To save him time grouting, you could go down the “posh” vinyl tile route. It all depends on whether you would actually want vinyl, and your fitter’s ability to fit them, of course (or just find a different fitter). We’ve just had some fitted in our hallway, we love them. They’re apparently pretty indestructible and warm underfoot to boot.

Millymolly that looks lovely! We are meeting him at a flooring place on Sunday so I will have a chat with him then. Thanks again

I like what you've chosen. I think he is thinking about how it will be easier for him to lay bigger tiles.

Trip to flooring place cancelled due to snow! I'd love to know why a reply about kitchen floor tiles was deleted....
