Wall colour to go with aubergine

Our bedroom has been dull neutral for a long time and I've been keen to introduce some colour. I've just bought a painted bedside table in a lovely deep aubergine and I love it but I'm now confused about what colour the walls should be. I really don't want cream or grey or any variations on those and I'm not keen on lilac or pink. Would an eau-de-nil or duck egg work?

Could you do a feature wall of duck egg? It might be a bit overpowering if it was a whole room.

Colours that work well with aubergine are:

Olive and lighter shades like parsley green.

Teal and lighter shades in that palette so duck egg might work. I had a lovely duck egg blue living room once it was much greyer than I thought it would be on the wall, a warm blue.

Orange to browny reds such as dulux sun kiss.

Try getting some colour swatches or testers and paint lining paper to hold against your bedside table to see what you like in a bedroom.

Mustard. Eh, maybe a feature wall.

Echo natural greens with any purple are lovely x

If it's a more purple shade of aubergine a gold would be lovely, antique gold rather than new, does that make sense? That would be quite luxurious.

I love colour and I had a bright bedroom. It drove me mad pretty quickly. I think it's easier to stick to a more neutral wall colour and add colour with other details, for example cushions, rugs, pictures etc.

I agree that olive, sage, eau de nil, gold/mustard all lovely. Or grey but that's ruled out!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 01/03/2018 21:19

Thanks, all. Sage and eau de nil appeal most but I'd never considered gold or mustard. Once the crazy snow is away I'll be buying up some testers to try in the room. I definitely don't want bright colour, it's more of a subtle look I'm after, but just bored of white, cream and grey now.

Take a look at Little Greene's Mortlake Yellow, and F&B Hay.

Try Indian yellow from farrow & ball. It’s very ‘confident’ but gorgeous with Aubergine

I had an aubergine sofa and painted the walls sage green - it looked lovely.
