how would you arrange this sitting room?

Hope the pic comes out. We're moving into this rented house soon and I want to get some stuff for the sitting room. I really want to avoid this sofas round the edge thing and make a seating area in front of the fireplace. There are bookcases around the edges of the room anyway, so the furniture will have to be set further in.

Does anyone have any advice? I've tried using roomplanner apps but I can't seem to size the furniture to see how it would fit. The rooms about 5x5.9 I think.

That's the EA pic by the way, we're renting it unfurnished.

Maybe put 2 sofas facing each other at right angles to the fireplace with a coffee table in the middle, then a couple of occasional or armchairs angles towards each other in the bay window with a taller small table between them?

The layout in the photo could work and be nice and sociable.

Just make sure you measure up so furniture is in proportion and you can walk around it.

Thanks guys, great ideas! I'm just worried the room is not quite big enough. I guess we'll have to wait until we move in and get exact furniture measurements.

If it’s 5 by 5.9 metres, It should be big enough. Our sitting room is similar (about 5.5 by 5.5 is I remember correctly) and we have 2 sofas facing each other + 2 armchairs, a massive table and lots of space to comfortably walk around. But the sofas are 2m wide and not too deep and the armchairs aren’t massive either. In another room of the same size we have a giant sofa + 2 armchairs + footstool and that’s plenty. So it’s all about picking out the right size furniture.
