I'm not sure what to put above the fireplace.

I know lots of people have mirrors but I'm not sure.

Room is painted in Dulux Timeless, Duck egg curtains and cushions.

We have a canvas...

I've a mirror. It's a good place for it. Grin

Thought maybe a nice picture or canvas, not sure whether to colour match or go for something neutral.

We've got a painting. What do you mean colour match or something neutral? If you repaint the chimney breast?

AbsolutelyCorking · 22/02/2018 07:09

A mirror as it makes the room look bigger.

A mirror and candles which reflect when lit. The Range has some brilliant mirrors for under thirty quid.

Unless there's a piece of art you love I'd go for a mirror too. The bigger the better!

Definitely a big mirror - at least as wide as the fireplace. And ideally sitting on or just above the mantle piece or it looks a bit floaty IMO...

I'm fussy about my fireplace Grin

Mirror, large industrial wall clock, art or photo wall gallery, large art painting...

Or larger green wreath. Saw some lovely pics with wreaths surrounded in an empty wooden frames.

I have a painting of the forth road and rail bridges.

DC3 has a huge revolting canvas above her lovely Victorian fireplace. Black background and looks like someone has chucked tins of various other coloured paint over it. Horrible! Hoping it gets lost when they move.
Not helpful but I needed to shareGrin

Art looks great over the fireplace but you need to choose something you really love and that has meaning rather than just something that will compliment your decor as it will be a focal point.

Otherwise as others say a very large mirror.

Go to a Printfest and buy some work from an up and coming artist that you like then you might also have an investment! Lots of young artists have quite affordable work.
