Pendant lights over my island

I’m in the process of renovating my kitchen. We are having an island installed, but it sits directly under a metal supporting beam. I really wanted to hang the classic 3 pendant lights along the length (the same way the beam runs). Help! Any solutions to this problem much appreciated!

Have you asked the electrician? Do you know exactly where the steel sits? How much space is there between the steel and the ceiling? Pendants are better than recessed lights here as they are generally not very heavy and don't need a lot of room above.
Or - assuming it's not very wide - can you work round it by siting the pendants slightly off centre?

You could have the light fitting fixed to the ceiling on the side of the beam and then hook the flex to the centre of the beam so the pendant still hangs central to the island. I may not be making much sense but if you look on Pinterest there’s lots of images where this has been done.

That sounds like a good solution! I will have a look at images - many thanks x

Meeting the electrician in the morning. Hopefully we can come up with some solutions. May be able to move the island slightly to allow the pendants to hang from the ceiling on one side of the beam. Thanks for replying x

Did you find a solution @Hollies12 ?

Yes! We are going to make the boxing around the beam wider and hang the spots centrally from the boxing. Sorted 😁
