Removing built in wardrobes

Our new house has been previously fitted out with built in wardrobes in most bed rooms. 3 out of the 4 are fine as in they are good for storage and aren’t too oppressive in the space however in the 4th room they take over the whole room and really reduce the size. They’ve only been fitted a year so they are in perfect condition but I want to utilise the space better for us in this room and remove them and put in a small freestanding one.

Anyone removed built in wardrobes themselves? If so, how...??

I removed our old fitted wardrobes. It was just a case of unscrewing them. It was not a difficult job just a bit bulky to manoeuvre the sections.
