Does anyone have one? Bathroom in my new house has no window and looks very dull looking for ideas to make it bright.

Yes.
I'd have also though the majority of en-suites are windowless?
When we built ours - it is a second bathroom but we chose to have door on to the landing rather than our bedroom, for all sorts of practical reasons, we didn't put a window in. It has a good extractor fan that comes on with the light.
A decent light and a big mirror keep it plenty light enough.

Neither of our bathrooms have a window. They both have extractor fans. I guess I've got used to them and never think about a missing window! They have very large mirrors and are both tiled in white matt tiles with the paintwork all white. Actually everything is quite white - they feel bright and airy! The towels are either light grey or beige. They are quite calm rooms.

We have two of these (modern flat). We have recently refurbished and my advice would be:

  • big tiles, right up to the ceiling and on the floor (matching) in a light colour, ours are huge silver grey tiles.
  • maximise floor space (in one we took out the bath and put in a corner shower).
  • the largest mirrors possible (we have one wall with a huge mirror from waist height - above the sink and loo - to the ceiling).
  • very bright lighting (super-bright ceiling spotlights).

It looks good I think. We had to do it on a budget but put money into the finishing - eg chrome edging for the tiles. Most of the budget went on labour (fantastic builder) but you could go much more high end for fixtures if you were able to do the work yourself/yourselves.

Yes but we got a velux window put in the roof and then boxed a sort of tunnel through the loft to the ceiling. Didn't cost that much and works a treat. Or you can get those sun tube things.

I had two windowless bathrooms in my last (rented) flat. One had been done up with dark grey tiles and a black floor and was basically like having a shower in a cave. The other was white and silvery with a pale wood floor and was completely different, much much nicer. Keep it light colours and bright lightbulbs and try and get decent ventilation.

Thanks It's the main bathroom didn't think about ensuites. It's a new build so pretty basic just now won't be tiling until next year, just now only the bath wall is tiled. I was in seeing it the other day the whole house is very bright big windows in every room then the bathroom though a good size looked so dull the show home was obviously already done up ans looked a lot brighter but I can't remember how it actually looked.

I think we will paint the walls a light colour and get a big mirror. Change the lights too.
