Need a lounge colour

Moved in just before Christmas to 250 year old cottage, think beams, small windows and low ceilings. Need to choose a wall colour as soon as poss as have a carpenter coming to fit bookcases in two weeks and they are being painted the same colour as the walls, and the walls need painting behind them!

Needs to be a neutral, not too yellow. Something to bounce light around but with a bit of depth to it. Eventually room will have neutral curtains/carpet and this end of the room (its split in two by a central brick fireplace) will just have bookcases and probably deep rose pink velvet armchairs.

Willing to pay F and B prices if I have to, but happy to look lower end too.

Any ideas?

I have Laura Ashley Pale Sable pretty much everywhere. It’s not a white it’s a very pale brown. I think it’s gorgeous, very warm and unassuming. Would look lovely with rose pink.

Would it look too brown with lots of beams do you think? The ceiling is 50/50 beams and plaster.
Off to google it! What's their paint like?

Possibly yes. But I would definitely recommend their paint, it goes on well, covers evenly and touches up beautifully.

Having used cheaper paint for one of the kids rooms which was comparatively a massive pain in the arse I love LA paint more than ever now!

We used this paint in our lounge. Definitely makes the room seem lighter. Have had lots of compliments on it
