You can just see at the side a arch that used to be a door. How would you do this up? Looks a bit daft just now

Bookcase?

WipsGlitter · 03/01/2018 18:00

Ca you remove the moulding so it's less obvious?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/01/2018 18:03

Paint the moulding the same colour as the walls

You could make a shallow alcove to display decorative objects? Google "between the studs" for ideas.

OnNaturesCourse · 03/01/2018 19:55

I can't remove unfortunately.

There's no indent, so my original idea of shelves won't work either 😟

You could still put shelves there, they will just project from the wall - it is hard to tell if that would look odd without the full context. Do you have pictures from other angles? How long is the wall the archway was in? What is the room going to be used for?

OnNaturesCourse · 03/01/2018 21:55

It's the living area and it's where a double archway was, I shall get better pictures tomorrow.

I'm thinking I might buy a nice bit of furniture to put against the wall in the middle, a book case or something?

If it doesn't recess at all, I wouldn't do shelves. I'd still make a feature of it by putting some art there, a large print or poster (framed or hung between bars) or whatever is to your taste.

I'd possibly repaint so that the trim matches the wall so you're not competing with the texture of the wallpaper (or the ceiling?) for attention.

Thank you. It's getting decorated so that horrific black embossed paper will be gone... Thinking a deep cream or light brown?
