Paint colours for dark dining room? Pictures included!

I'm looking to paint my dining room. It has hardly any natural light as it leads onto other rooms. I need paint colours that are going to help with its dark shadowy ways. It also has a lot going on in the room with a wall cupboard and a total of 4 doorways. I was thinking a blue-green colour or something like a pale blue. From the testers I've tried the colours seem to go quite dull on the wall. Has anyone painted a dark room with success? I'm clueless!

I also need to choose woodwork colour and the floor is the old black and red victorian tiles.

Dulux have an app you can download that lets you see what colours will (sort of) look like on your walls, it uses AR technology to superimpose the colour. Might be worth a look.

I'd either go with cream of some kind or similar light neutral, or make a feature of the darkness of the room and go for deep bold colours and add some extra lights and lamps rather than just the overhead light.

Pinterest may be worth a browse too for ideas. Good luck!

I went dark in my dark dinning room (boysenberry I think) and it looked fab. Much better then the previous magnolia.

I went dark red in my old dining room which was dark with lots of wood - looked fab! Very atmospheric, especially with clever lighting.

I would go dark with clever, cosy lighting too.
A nice oriental rug and some antiquey lamps would look stunning.
It's a lovely room with so much potential.
I really like the bones of this room ... a lot.
