Rugs like rugs are in house magazines

I love rugs. But mine always shed, ruck up, crawl around the room, buckle and never lie flat.

Please can someone advise me on good rug care, so when I replace them yet again they stay put and look good, as they do in other houses. they'll be lying on top of carpet, and they'll be quite large (2mx3m)

What sort of grip/underlay works best? How can I stop them rucking and moving?

We have the John Lewis underlay for our woven rug, lots of the woven rugs are beautiful but they’re not heavy enough to stay in one place (especially if you have children and dogs). I tried the cheapo Ikea underlay but it was useless so eventually formed out for the JL one - it’s not cheap but it was worth it.

Our other rugs are heavy wool ones though and never had any problem with them moving. They’re quite big and parts of them are under furniture so that helps

Get JL/Foxi type underlay, expensive yes, but the cheaper type are no good and you'll be wasting your money buying them.

We use a Next rug grip on ours and don't need to adjust it so often now, DH was trying to explain to me about rug creep, apparently it is do do with movement over which way the carpet tufts lie. A new thick pile carpet will be much worse for causing this and it is very difficult to stop it.

The rugs we have downstairs are JL pure wool and partly under furniture but they still crawl around the room. The upstairs ones were cheaper IKEA ones and a couple of Oriental rugs. They all ruckreally badly. But if it's the carpet underneath causing it that makes sense.

We had an old carpet downstairs which was thinner and the rug didn’t move much, then we bought a new 80/20 carpet from John Lewis and the rug all rucked up as soon we walked on it.
