What fabric in boys' rooms?

I'm having roman blinds made for my two boys' newly refurbished bedrooms. I thought I had decided on fabric but the lady making them suggested they might lack longevity... Which I think is a nice way of saying they are too garish and babyish! She suggested going for a simple pattern in their favourite colours. I can kind of see her point, but equally I'd love to get them something fun and patterned for their rooms. This is the fabric:

I’m kind of inclined to agree it’s her, especially about the alphabet one. I make a lot of blinds and find that for children’s Rooms, especially boys’, people tend to go for something like stars or checks or stripes and then pick colours from the stripes to pick up in other parts of the rooms

IMO: Get something understated that you can live with for years. Put up shouty pictures and posters. Much cheaper in the long run. Before you know it they will have definitely outgrown the kids prints.

I made curtains out of lovely patterned fabric for both my boys, what seems like 5 minutes later a few years later and they are deemed 'too babyish' and we're on to stripes for one and stars for the other

So although I like both of your choices I would say, especially for the 5yo, you won't get much use out of them before the DC want to change them.

I didn’t notice it was wallpaper.

I've gone for these instead, the green and blue one on the left for five year old and the red/multicoloured one for the three year old.

You could always just get plain ones in a nice colour and put those bobbly things on the end in a way that you can remove them when your DSs get older.

Lovely choices

For blinds or curtains which are expensive, I would go plain or striped etc. Use the louder fabrics for duvet covers or cushions or bean bags. Things that can be changed easily at a lesser expense than blinds.
