Alternative to fluorescent light

Looking to change kitchen light. Darkish room at back of our house, which presently has old fluorescent strip light. Spot lights on ceiling bar will throw shadows, and a single drop light wouldn't give enough light. Any ideas for what I could replace it with please? Is there a modern version of the fluorescent strip?!

You could look for a fitting that takes a circular tube T5/T9, they still give a very even light. Try a pro lighting supplier like ocean lighting, they also have some really nice chrome straight tube fittings.

It came originally with QI bulbs but we substituted LEDs when these failed (which was very quickly). All six lamps can be pointed in different directions, and we don't have any shadow problems. Might depend on the size/shape of the kitchen, though.

Ok there are quite a lot on that site. There is some amazing lighting out there. Bear in mind you can also get different shades of warm/cool/daylight tubes or LEDs to get the right mood.
