Best way to protect my hard flooring from chair scratches

Hi everyone,

Looking to protect my floor against scratches when family come round and drag my chairs across the floor.It's only really an issue in my kitchen which has a hard wood, oak flooring and has been causing me problems for a long while now.

I have tried stick on rubber / felt pads but they are useless as they fall off when anyone who actually weighs something takes a seat.

Any suggestions based on what you've maybe tried before?

I was going to say the felt ones but you've already tried them... mine Work well but need replacing every couple of months as they wear out and get grubby.

Maybe try a different brand to what you've been using?

Or... wilkos do cork ones, I haven't tried them but might be worth a go?

How thick are the legs? You can get push-on rubber feet. I use them on mine.

I have been looking to try different brands, but I think a different style is what I need more than anything after speaking to a few people.

We have standard legs, fairly thick but are filled so must have something that goes over it like a cup almost.

After searching online it appears there are a few places out there that 'specialize' in this type of thing, this one (www.vital-parts.co.uk/furniture--chair-feet-18-c.asp) looks promising but has anyone else used a similar service, are they just push fit?

Magi-glide are your friends. Silicone pads you can either nail onto (eg dining table and chairs) and stick on ones.

They are FABULOUS.

First found them in a Indian Restaurant in Bakewell - they made the chairs so quiet and smooth I upended one whilst waiting for my curry . Seriously, seriously good. Think I have converted everyone I know to them now.

My kitchen floor has withstood the battering from 2DCs scraping furniture for 5 years now. Not a scratch and no wince-inducing noises. The nail on ones are better at staying put so go for those where you can.

I have some on order from Vital Parts but we will test them both against eachother as I'm sure i'll need them all in the long-run anyway.

Chair socks?

I have had a little look at Chair socks previously but they would look too ridiculous on my chairs.

Also, i've heard they snag and wear pretty quickly if the chair is relatively heavy.
