Colours to go with mahogany floor

We have beautiful hardwood mahogany floors which have just been re-varnished. I now need some inspiration for sofas and curtains which isn't easy. We currently have cream sofas but I'm sick of them and want something darker and preferably leather (due to several small children).
So any ideas? I've seen s rug in John Lewis (see pic)which would cover about 2/3 of the floor and I will be paining the walls - once I settle on colours!

You could be focusing on too many dark shades. I prefer the rug that is just out of shot, as it will lift the colours in the floor rather than tone them down.
The same principal with the sofas, avoid dark brown or black, but look to a mid shade from the floor, chestnut or tan, perhaps.
