I've been quoted £1000 to have a 2.5 meter wide/ 2 meter drop roman blind handmade- to include the below-

To make interlined roman blind with blackout lining
To supply headrail with chrome side chain
To supply interlining and blackout lining
To fit blinds
To supply 4m of (UTTERLY STUNNING) fabric

and also including making, fitting and supplying a roller blind in bathroom in a lovely fabric I've also chosen.

Does this sound insanely mad? The woman has also fitted our dining room and kitchen blinds and we adore them, they are beautifully made and we get many compliments. So I know the end result is pure quality and think blinds well finished and in a lovely fabric can be such an important statement piece to a room. Does this sound serous rip off or justified? Thanks!!

Try getting two more quotes. The fabric is generally the bulk of the cost.

Hi Scatty i had loads of curtains and blinds made for our new house last year - the key info I think is how much your fabric is costing !
Then you can probably get a much clearer idea - I had one fabric I totally fell in love with that was £100 a metre !

Thanks both. Its a stunning floral fabric that I'm sure inst the cheapest, I've asked her for a breakdown of this. So say its also £100 a meter- so that x 4= £400, would the others costs of hand making these with linings, the fitting costs for 2 blinds etc not be too outrageous?

Thanks!

If you are having a heavily patterned curtain with a 2 metre drop you will need more than 4 metres to allow for pattern match and heading and hems.

It does sound a lot but the cost of the fabric will be a large part of it. Check with her how much it would be with a cheaper fabric.

My blind is wider than yours but shorter & it was around £800-900 5 years ago. I had to get more than 4 meters of fabric though. She needs to match the pattern & do seams so a 2m drop wouldn't be 4m of fabric . My blind is 2.5 widths of material. Black out lining I think is about £8 per meter.

Something I want to add is that my blind needs replaced already because it's just too heavy. The cords started to snap & then it started to stick when lowering it. ive now worn away holes in the material pulling it down all the time although.

Lesley, thankyou!! I must add all her blinds are hand sewn so this must take into account some of the cost. The finish of our other blinds is utterly perfect/stunning so I think I'll go ahead.

You can pricecheck against online quotes from made to measure places easily enough. Curtains and blinds are something you can spend any amount of money on from £50 to many many hundreds so it's really down to your judgement.

I am really rather keen on my 247 curtains and blinds so I feel no need to trade up/pay more, but it sounds like you will enjoy spending the £1000 and knowing you will totally love the result, and the fact that it's handmade.

Absolutely normal for high quality handmade.

Hi I had two roman blinds made 90x120, maker supplied the blackout lining/headrail/sidewinder for £210.00 all handmade & beautiful finish, she didn't fit them or supply the fabric & they are not interlined, but does seem a lot of money, could you not fit them yourself? They are quite easy to fit might reduce the cost a bit.
