Wooden floors

I've decided I can't be doing with carpet anymore. It's either filthy all the time (4 dcs, 2 dogs, three cats) or pristine because I stand guard over it like Golum and his ring.

So I am going to put wood flooring down. Or engineered wood.

However from room to room, should I put the same flooring down? Hall through to living room and play room and dining room? Will it look odd with different flooring room to room?

We lifted the carpet and had the wooden floor. Now we've gone back to carpet (whitish! 3 DCs) as its softer, warmer and quieter.

I'd go with the same pattern of wood to make it look more spacious.

I would. It'll flow better I think! That's what I'd like to do eventually. I have two boys and two cats... always messy and I'm sick of cleaning cat sick from carpet and trying Hoover Persian hair from it!

Wood is pretty and easier to clean but you do have to get after those dust bunnies. And you can never go barefoot because it will be cold or there will be bits if detritus underfoot. ANYWAY, yes same throughout. It will look so nice.

I'd put the same wood in all rooms downstairs. You could put different rugs in each room if you wanted to make it look warmer.

Underfloor heating possible?

Wood is a very good insulation material so I wouldn't consider underfloor heating with wood or wood-derived products. You might be told otherwise in some shops, though.

Having said that, wood is pleasant to walk on barefoot- the polar opposite of walking on a tiled floor for example.

PS wold you considered tiling some areas? Easy maintenance and underfloor heating works amazingly well.
