Want an interesting downstairs loo. Has anyone got any pictures for me to steal ideas from please?

Iv'e been plotting our downstairs loo revamp too and too fancy something bold!

I'm currently thinking white subway tiles on the bottom half of the walls then some funky wallpaper on top.

I've been planning for ages but I'm very indecisive. So today I just went and actually looked around till I found something I liked. I did 6,000 steps just around B&Q, Wickes etc. I bought white porcelain floor tiles with a blue and greenish vein/splash and blue/grey mosaic patterned tiles for the walls. I bought a frame and framed the poster we bought a few weeks ago on holiday. The poster gave me the inspiration for the colour scheme (blue - pale green - light brown). I am relieved. It won't be glamorous or particularly 'wow' but it's my design.

My DH's only input was "whatever you fancy, it's only the downstairs bog".

Sea themed 3D stickers Grin

If I had a downstairs loo I would be tempted by some of these.... www.wallpaperfromthe70s.com/additional-wallpapers/funky-wallpaper/?locale=eu&country=GB

Also my cousin decorated hers with old copies of the beano floor to ceiling. Looked cool and cheap to do.

I really love those renaissance style wallpapers you can get (you know dark blue with birds and pimnegrabates and what not) but I wouldn't really want them in a room small than 400sqfeet. Unless it was a dwbstaris wc. Might work with a big mirror. Or not. I'm generally a go big or go home person. Needless to say I normally go hone with he French grey paint.

I've been looking at those papers silkybear - love the orangey flamingo one and the peacock feather one. I'm thinking similar to you pigleychez but no tiles & maybe panelling the bottom half then wall papering above but a huge mirror over the basin so I don't need a tile splash back. I'm not keen on tiles - well, I am but the only ones seem to be ££££!!!

I have Hermes orange walls and a lot of artwork, like a mini gallery.

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 23:06

A bit like this one

I also have about a dozen pairs of wellies in there and burgundy towels Blush

Kimlek · 08/09/2017 23:11

I did consider that 'frames' wall paper where you stick on your own photos, artwork etc but I remember looking at that for my youngest's bedroom about 8 years ago so went off it again! Ok for a kids room but maybe not the loo. Your version is much more grown up!!

The other option of course is to get floor to ceiling mirrors on every wall inc back of the door and wait for the reaction of house guests Grin

GreenTulips · 08/09/2017 23:43

Look tab pop art tiles - they're awesome!

Also look into Moroccan style flooring which is making a comeback

WutheringFrights · 08/09/2017 23:49

I want Winnie the Pooh wallpaper - with quotes - because I quite obviously have the sense of humour of a 4 year old boy....

And the floor made entirely from 1p pieces because you go there to spend a penny....

Sorry.

JoJoSM2 · 08/09/2017 23:52

I was going to go with a fish wallpaper, like the one in the photo. Unfortunately, I chickened out.

This is mine.... wallpaper by Blendworth, but not much needed for a loo so not too expensive.

I was looking at that exact same wallpaper jojoSM2 It's gorgeous! I'm now thinking floor to picture rail could work well. Would need posher basin though - love the one in the picture but that'd cost a few pennies!!
I also love Winnie the Pooh wutheringfrights! I'll check out pop art tiles greentulip. Not only would guests get a fright silkybear can you imagine the cleaning!

Wood panelling painted and a really loud wallpaper like the goldfish ones would be fab.
Or I've seen grey/blue background with pink flamingo wallpaper so with hot pink hand towel and the wood panelling would look fab.

I don't have a downstairs loo though. But I'd definitely do something quite outrageous compared to the rest of my vanilla house.

JoJoSM2 · 09/09/2017 13:39

Kimlek, not sure what your house is like or your style but a budget-friendly way to a similar vanity with washbasin is to buy an antique marble-top washstand (have seen them for under £100) and then ask the plumber to do an over mount washbasin.
It would look similar to the attached pic and would probably go well with wacky walls.

Kimlek · 09/09/2017 23:41

JoJoSM2 - that's definitely worth considering. Are you seeing them on eBay or somewhere else please?

Mine is fuscia pink, small chandelier, big mirror (above sink, not to view yourself in,)and lots of small photos of us having fun in frames that are different colours. I'm also painting 'you're in my spot' on the wall just above the toilet. It's a quote from Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Therory. There are butterfly wall stickers too. I'm the only female in the house and I can hide in my pink room when I need to! It's all my tacky taste that I haven't had to tone down for other people.

JoJoSM2 · 11/09/2017 12:09

I've seen washstands pop up on eBay, Gumtree, i antique shops on Preloved etc. Also, if you were keen on storage underneath then the Hemnes vanity from Ikea is presentable on a budget. Having said that, downstairs loos don't always need that much storage so just going with a washbasin will work too.
