What are people doing fo rflooring these days? I need to replace some tired old laminate in hall and living room. I like light wood, don't want anything orangey, but am not sure whether to go for modern laminate, eng wood or real wood. I really like the look of Dinesen solid oak flooring dinesen.com/collection/oak-wooden-planks/ but am wondering if I cna get a similar feel with someting cheaper and more hard wearing/less maintenance.

I've just ordered wood effect tiles. They haven't been laid yet and I'm still a bit nervous about them but I hear good things. They're a mid grey porcelain so if it works, I expect they'll look good for a very long time.

Does anyone have a view on (whisper) vinyl? I need something that can withstand three children and still look good

Wood effect tiles too. Ours are browny grey porcelain but not as brown as the brown ones in mrs dusty link.

We're having wood-effect LVT (polyflor, but karndean and amtico are the brands most commonly mentioned on Mumsnet). I wanted a limed-effect oak, something a bit soft underfoot and able to withstand spillages etc!

We went with Quickstep Impressive. Very happy with it and it keeps getting lots of compliments. Their colour range is great if you are trying to avoid the cheap orange laminate look.

thankyou these are really helpful ideas. clearly choice has moved on!

I've just had stair carpet fitted and the guy recommended quickstep impressive so that is really interesting. it looks really good, he showed me a few samples.
