Tile paint - is it any good?

I'm thinking of painting my kitchen to refresh it. I can paint most of the walls as most of it is paint over plaster already. However there is a border of floral tiles at just above unit height which are awful. So I was thinking of painting over them with tile paint. So two things i want to ask, if anyone has any experience with tile paint. 1) is tile paint actually any good? Does it stay on, is it durable or in areas that get wet and wiped down a lot, is it likely to wear off quickly? And 2) would a light colour paint cover over a pattern or would the pattern show through? The tiles are dark blue flowers on a white background, would a cream tile paint cover this ok do you think? Oh and any recommendations for a good brand or any to avoid?

We used tile paint in our old house and it is definitely durable to wiping etc.

The tiles we covered were varying shades of brown Confused and the white paint covered really well. It's very thick stuff so I'd definitely advise two thinner coats than one thick one. The area I left to DH went bubbly because he thought he'd 'save time' Hmm

Oh and it saves us a fortune.

I did a bathroom in it that was jolly dated and it looked fine and wore well in the damp etc. Second the thin coats x2. I rollered the first then brushed. It was massively cheaper than retiling.

Great, thanks both. Two coats it is then. Do you remember which paint brand you used at all?

We used wilko's own brand as it seemed to have the best reviews and not too expensive at all.

It goes a long way but definitely buy enough (or check batch numbers) so you don't risk slightly different shades. Happened to a friend and it was the white paint so quite noticeable.

Ours is just starting to peel off in the bathroom after 5 years, it was a good short term solution but the whole room now needs redoing
