Hello. design ideas needed please!
We are in the process of having our bathroom re-done and I am very excited :). My builders built me a large alcove approx 60 h x 40 w which was slightly larger than I anticipated. (They did this a while ago and have been working on other stuff) I have organised the bathroom suite and tiles but but they are starting to tile tomorrow and I have realised I have nothing organised for a shelf. Can I ask what other people have done? I am assuming a toughened glass shelf but has anyone else got a better idea as not over keen on this. Also we are having white tiles 30 x 10cm in white, I am having them with dark grey grout. The tiling place tried to convince me to use steel coloured trim for the alcove and the window but I think that would look odd. Would like to get opinions on what colour to go for as I am having trouble visualising it... thanks

If you're going for quite an industrial look, perhaps metal shelves might work. As there's bound to moisture, I would be careful with wood, laminate etc

thankyou.
i think i might have to go for glass as I need them in the next couple of days. they just seem a bit dull. thank you for your idea though. I think I might go for what trim too rather than the dark

We had a bigger alcove and I got three toughened glass shelves for it from a local glass merchants. Once it is tiled out, it will look more impressive. The tiler used two trims the same colour as the tiles together at the outer edge which looked good.

thanks wowfudge. I am going to order an 8mm toughened glass shelf. Do you mean that the long edge was covered in a trim? I can't picture what you mean? can the glass just be sandwiched between tiles on either side of the alcove or is trim required?

Do you get the choice of brushed/ mat/ polished steel trim? If you went with a white trim, Check it against the tiles that it's the same white, I found out to my disappointment that whites can actually clash!
