We are about to move in to a new house and want to change the appearance of the current log burner and would love reccomendations on the best way to go about this so it remains safe. We want to back the log burner with a brick effect - can you get fire proof tiles that can be used for this? We also want to install a beam mantle above the burner - who can help put this up so it is a safe distance and is their a specific wood that should be used?

Bottom picture is current log burner and top is what we want to transform it to.

Excuse the spelling - my phone never seems to correct it so end up with words all over the place as I never check!

I've a little experience but the bricks are the back of the fireplace; I'd ask a builder to remove the plasterboard and see what's beneath. The wood across the top is a lintel; chances are yours (behind the plasterboard is either concrete or wood so you can again expose it and change it if you wish

We've had one fitted that is not dissimilar to your top photo but without the brick effect. I would probably recommend getting a company who install them out to advise you - we used a local family run company who do full installations but also renoonvations etc. Even if you decide not to go with a company to do the work they should be able to advise on what meets the required standards and what's possible.

In your bottom photo am I right in thinking that looks like they've had an interior fireplace built? The top one looks like the inglenook is exterior.

We finally decided on an external chimney so ours is set back so not to lose space in the actual room but we were starting from scratch (and we had the outside space to do it)
