White ceilings?

Is this still the general rule? We're fairly adventurous with colour/decor and I quite like the skirting-matching-wall-colour thing, but would painting the ceilings the same colour as the walls be too much?

It depends on lots of factors such as colour you intend using.

Ceiling height, amount of light, etc. If you paint the whole room the same colour it will have the effect of closing it in and making it feel smaller - darks colours will amplify the effect.

Cool, thanks.

Ceilings don't need to be white at all. They can look cool in a lot of different colours or even wallpapered.

If you go with colour or pattern, though, it'll be quite a statement so you need to make sure you'd be happy to sit in such a room for any length of time.

Depends on the height of your rooms - I have very pale grey ceilings (painted them 10 years ago) but every time I look up now I feel as if the ceiling is too low! Changing to white soon

Anything other than white will lower your ceilings. Prepare yourself.

I love a picture rail a couple of feet down & White above & ceiling-the contrast of colour looks great imo
