i am trying to choose a carpet colour for my lounge and dining room. my main consideration is i dont want it to get dirty quickly.

i moved in 6 months ago and the whole house is decorated in an 70' 80's style so we are slowly doing what we can. the lounge and dining area is going to be at least a 6 months off so i am getting a temporary ( cheap) carpet to replace the filthy light cream carpet we have currently. i dont really have to consider it matching anything as the walls are white textured wallpaper, the curtains are cream and sofa is brown add in a lovely fake brick fireplace complete with attached tv unit and fake chimney bit that stops half way up the wall and you get the idea of the delight that is my lounge
the rooms have massive windows and good light so i can go dark. i was thinking darkish grey but grey reminds me of office carpets.
to be honest i dont like carpet, i want a wood floor eventually so i dont have any preferences. so any ideas would be very welcome

Don't go dark or light in a block colour. Heather type carpets in mid tones hide dirt and dust best.

If you would like to come with me.I think gray is the perfect solution. Its pretty dark color and you would love to add in your lounge and dining room. Wink

I have medium grey carpet and it seems to survive quite well.

Huh? The colour doesn't change how dirty it gets, it's simply the colour hides the dirt, it's still just as dirty, irrelevant of colour.

I prefer cream, it shows the dirt which is a good thing in my view. Buy a home carpet cleaner and give it a quick going over ever couple of weeks. There is nothing worse than a dirty carpet. Just because you can't see the dirt doesn't mean it's not dirty and that you can't smell it.
