Does anyone know if I can add a pedestal to a wall mounted basin?

I've bought a wall mounted basin but I've realised that the wall might not be strong enough so now looking for pedestal (from the same bathroom range).
It's the Carlton Traditional Cloakroom basin.

I always thought that pedestals were purely decorative, to hide the pipes behind them, rather than to support the basin iyswim? I may be wrong though as I'm no plumber
