It's ALL magnolia

So, we moved into our new/self build in 2009. I found the need to decorate the whole house rather overwhelming. We went on holiday and left instructions with the decorator to paint white gloss on the woodwork and magnolia top to bottom.

Since then we've got married, had twins and survived twins. Life has happened!

Now I hate the magnolia! But I still find it a bit overwhelming!

How do go about choosing colours? I can loose hours in the internet, pinterest etc and still don't get any further forward. Colour schemes and options are endless. I just don't feel very confident if that doesn't sound too pathetic!

Is there such a thing as on-line interior designers?!

I think you need to stop thinking about "the whole house" and focus on one room.

What about your twins bedroom ?
Do you fancy a mural?
Or, have they got particular quilt covers or something you like? (sorry, don't know how old they are)
If you have blackout blinds, do you want to then 'lighten' the room with brighter curtains?
Or do you fancy some strong primary colours?
What about carpets? - do you have to match with what is there, or are you replacing them?

TBH I think this is any house. Mine just stepped out of the 1980s and when we moved in2 years ago I swore I'd have it done asap. We've managed one bedroom. As we want to do a lot we've done it room by room. My new aim is the sitting room - which needs anew fireplace and floor!

Baby steps is the way forwards.

One room at a time.
Ours was magnolia in the downstairs hall, stairs, upstairs hall and all bedrooms.
I've done the hall and stairs in grey.
Our room with dark blue is next (though may leave a wall light).
Ds's room might stay but have wall stickers added, not decided yet.
The office/spare room I can't decide so am just waiting till inspiration hits.
Just deal with one room at a time.

I am having this exact issue!

My current plan, is to list what I want to do, and pick colours for everywhere. Just as vague ideas. And then start room by room, but content in the knowledge I've got the rest planned for if/when I can be arsed...

My house is a period cottage, and Pinterest has stunning cottages, but mine is so much of a mismatch currently that its so hard to visualise anything!

What colour is all your stuff? Bedding, towels, cushions, sofa, curtains? It can't all be magnolia?
