What colour to paint porch, and integrated woodwork?

Hi All

After some advice because I'm drawing blanks currently!

We moved into our new house a couple of months ago. It doesn't 'need' things doing per say as it has been very well looked after, only cosmetic bits and pieces if we feel that way inclined, and I always do, much to DH's dismay Grin

Does anyone have suggestions as to what colour you'd paint a porch? It's quite reasonably sized, will attach a photo.

Also, in the front room and dining room there is some built in shelving and some cupboards. What would you do with them, paint white and have the walls a different colour, or paint the same colour as the walls..? Or something else entirely?

House is a Victorian cottage but it doesn't have high ceilings, used to be workers cottages down here I think.

Any opinions gratefully received!

Hi Op, with cupboards I think it depends on if you want the cupboards/shelves to blend in with the walls or stand out, I would be inclined to do them a contrasting colour to the walls, rather than same colour as walls or white, but I love colour.
As for the porch, does it lead into the front room or a hallway? If it leads directly into a room, would either do it a colour that 'goes' with your main room colour, i.e. Same shade but maybe slightly lighter or darker or if separate from other rooms do what takes your fancy, depends on the colours you like really.
Enjoy your new home, it sounds lovely.

Thank you, lots to think about!

The porch leads into the dining room but I daresay we will go for quite muted, pale colours throughout. I will make sure to think about the dining room before painting the porch...quite liking Farrow and Ball White Tie at the moment, but not the price tag!

Florence, yes think muted colours would be lovely as the ceilings are quite low, Dulux do some lovely heritage colours & are a bit cheaper than f&b also take a look at Mylands paint, if you don't mind paying a bit more the quality is brilliant & lovely paint to work with & very hard wearing.

Ooh thank you very much, I will have a look. I don't mind paying more if it's good stuff, but sometimes you really seem to be paying for the name and no better product (mighty peeved with my Dyson and their customer service currently!).

Florence, totally agree imo f&b is hugely overrated whereas Mylands is manufactured here in the U.K. Has a royal warrant no less😃 But is not for some reason very well known, the colour choices are not as wide as f&b I currently have Lambeth walk on my kitchen walls(a pale blue) & cupboards are painted in fitzrovia (a pale mushroom colour)
Disclaimer I don't work for them!

Will have a google, thank you! No I haven't heard of them either but have F&B. There is an F&B store not too far from me which is rather popular too which probably helps them. Thank you very much Grin
