Best flooring for bathroom

Just moved into a new house and want to spruce up the bathroom a bit.

I've previously had carpeted bathrooms which has its pros and cons, but I'm open to other types of flooring.

Speaking from your own experience, is wood or tiling better than carpet?

With tiling it depends on if you need to get to the pipes at any time - you can. buy a heat pad now for around £80 which gets wired into the electricity, keeps your toes warm in winter

We've had wood flooring, toilet leaked and the wood spli/smelt

We've had tiles, grout looks grubby after a while

We are going for vinyl this time

Tiled, just make sure not to get white grout. We had grey grout in the last house we renovated, and have just done the same in our current house. Much more durable than wood floors, and grey grout means it doesn't looks grubby over time...

Anything but carpet! Not helpful I know!

We have grey grouted dove grey tiles, not so dark that they make the bathroom look dark, but not so light that they show every spec of dust!

We didn't bother with underfloor heating as we wear slippers in the house, and my eczema really suffers if anywhere is hot or stuffy. We have a nice shaggy bath mat in each bathroom that gets washed frequently, and that's cosy enough for me!

From personal experience wood was a pain in the arse, got marked with dropped cosmetics, smelt damp as I suspect it was poorly installed, was a chore to clean - you can't just swish a mop or steam cleaner over it!

Vinyl, looks lovely, sadly I am v. allergic and it makes my eyes stream so that came out of our flat sharpish. Provided it's well sealed it's a dream to clean, and with good underlay can still be quite cosy

Have you looked at Amtico? It's very hard wearing and fairly expensive - we had some in the kitchen it was 30 years old! Still liked lovely

We inherited a bathroom with large ceramic tiles on the floor two years ago, and they are now broken and chipped and need replacing. I'm going for vinyl as its cheaper and in my experience more durable (though that might be due to my clumsy family....).

LVT - luxury vinyl tiles, of which Amtico is one brand. Fabulous in bathrooms as they aren't cold underfoot, are easy to clean and maintain.

Amtico is great.
Wouldn't use wood as it would need to be perfectly sealed.
