Ok. The wood painting went well yesterday (thanks for the advice!).

But.... A while ago I painted the downstairs toilet in dulux matt in a dark colour, which shows every splash of water.

I went to the builders merchant and they told me egg shell was what I should have used. Like an idiot I said fine, mix me up a can. So I painted that yesterday. Lord what a disaster ! I think it's meant for wood and metal, not walls. And being oil based (which I didn't realise - more fool me) I've got a load of brushes and a roller to clean up.

Should I leave it a week and see if the shine goes off ?

Can I paint over with a water based product ? On the dulux page it looks like soft sheen is recommended for bathrooms so I've no idea why the paint centre at the merchants didn't recommend that ?

Loads of people paint their downstairs loos in eggshell. If it's a really dark colour and the walls are smooth it looks really sophisticated and so wipeable. I have eggshell in F&B Hague Blue in my little loo - there is no window so I've glammed it up with pictures etc. Mind you, my walls are far from smooth. How dark is your paint? Eggshell looks fab and lacquered if the shade is dark enough.

@DameDoom it's dulux sapphire springs 1

www.dulux.co.uk/en/colour-details/sapphire-springs-1 so fairly dark (by my standards at least, the rest of the house is Timeless pale...)

My walls are quite smooth but I can see the roller strokes... I can't facing painting it again this week so maybe I'll see if the shine and marks fade with time ?
