A "warm" gray

I want to paint our hall. It's currently F&B "blazer" (red) which I'm so sick of. It's a massive space - three story house.

I'm thinking a boring and predictable gray but don't want it to feel cold / blue undertones.

Any suggestions?

Hi, it really depends on the light as to what appears 'warm' to you but have a look at dulux polished pebble or farrow and ball skimming stone or elephants breath (or copies of-as I have due to £!) The light in the room is key though-try testers and see if any match the colour you're picturing

F&B Dove Tale is a v warm grey with lavender tones in certain lights.

Crown "Cloud Burst" is gorgeous. I had so many people compliment us and ask where it was from when we used it. It's also a bonus that Crown is a much nicer paint to use than F&B!

Farrow and Ball Cornforth White is lovely, really warm and velvety. It sort of changes colour depending on the light in the room. We have it in our living room and skimming stone in the hall which is also nice but very pale.

Dulux - goosedown is beautiful

I read all the advice here on previous threads about warm pale greys. I wanted a dupe for Elephant's Breath as we didn't have time / funds to get dd's bedroom in our new house stripped, replastered etc before we moved in and didn't want to waste expensive pain on wood chip walls (the horror!) so got Dulux Just Walnut.

I have literally just painted a bedroom Dulux polished pebble, finished on Tuesday. It's very pale but isn't cold. It does look slightly pale blue in some lights but I love it.

Goose down is also v nice and not at all cold, but it is darker.

I really wanted farrow & ball ammonite but DH wouldn't let me and insisted on dulux.

BIL did his in elephants breath but I think it was mixed by the painter (i.e. Not real F&B)so looks terrible!!

I've used Dulux Egyptian cotton in our bedroom, it looks very similar to f&b skimming stone to me. It is a lovely soft colour the intensity of grey varies with lighting or f&b purbeck stone - used this in our bathroom and love it, a definite grey but not cold

I've used Warm Pewter by Dulux in my dining room and it's a really nice mid grey, no purple or blue undertones. Very pleased with it.

Farrow and Ball Caluna is a lovely warm grey with a hint of purple. I have it in my lounge. It's gorgeous.

Frustratingly the painter has asked me to pick a crown colour!

cold he use a place that can colour mix? my decorator is using leyland paints but they can colour match anything from F&B to dulux.

He said he could colour match but the friend who recommended him (an interior designer) said it's never right. Our kitchen was colour matched to F&B and when we actually did it in F&B it was completely different.

Hardwick White is a warm grey and would look great. Do not get a F&B dupe - it's so worth shelling out the extra for velvety walls which change with the light and have so much depth - you just cannot get that with Dulux or Crown. Decorators often don't enjoy painting with F&B and will try to coerce into cheaper alternatives. Buy the paint yourself so they don't try and pass some lesser quality copy off.

A tip from a previous thread was to use the match to F&B for the undercoats and the real thing for just the top coat.

Hopefully your decorator would agree to using an alternative make if that's what you really wanted (Although I can understand them not wanting to use a cheaper diy own brand as these can often be thinner and require more coats therefore more time). It may be that the decorator has a good deal on crown paints hence the request, but as a previous poster said, perhaps you could buy the paint yourself.

F&B definitely have some lovely warm grey paint colours also worth looking at Little Greene Paint company.

We love farrow and ball cornforth white which is a beautiful pale grey. Farrow and ball ammonite is even more beautiful if you prefer an even lighter shade - we have the former in our hallway (which has loads of sunlight) and the latter in our front room (which isn't always as sunny) and absolutely love both. Agree definitely get the real thing - but you can use a cheap white as the base coat and then two coats of farrow and ball to get the depth of colour

It's a massive hall in a three story house so will need many many litres of paint!!!

I've got a few testers and agree the cloudburst is lovely!

Will check out the other suggestions.

oh im rethinking now....the decorator i wanted cant come for months and the other uses crown paints! back to the drawing board!!!

My living room is painted in Leyland Pearl which is a lovely pale grey.
