Advice needed for north facing kitchen!

Hi there,

We're soon to renovate our kitchen into a kitchen/diner space that has doors out onto the garden. There will be sky lights in the extended bit so it shouldn't be too dark but it is north facing so I don't want it to seem too cold or stark.

At the minute we're thinking of getting a DIY shaker kitchen with the units painted in cornforth white and an island in stiffkey blue, All with wooden worktops and a limestone floor. We may have to change worktops to laminate if we've run out of money though! And possibly slipper satin on the walls. We'd also have a rug on the floor and a sofa too to cosy it up a bit in one corner. And some pops of colour here and there with accessories.

Does anyone have any advice as to whether this combo will work? We're not very brave with bold colours (the island idea is pretty courageous for us!) and would rather steer away from beige.

Thank you!

I've been reading about this as our new kitchen will be north facing too. Basically you want warm with that orientation, don't you. I see the island colour as warm and the worktops will be too.

Maybe wait until it's in, do a sample of slipper satin on the wall and see what the light does with it?

Our units are going to be greyish and I'm thinking yellow or red on the walls if I'm brave enough. But maybe only on two walls.
