Carpet for bedrooms - advice / recommendations?

We are having our stairs and bedrooms carpeted. I want a snazzy geometric/stripey carpet on the stairs and a plain neutral one in bedrooms. The problem is I don't really care for the neutral colours? How do you decide between greige (a grey-beige!)and another slightly different shade of greige? They all look dull! Does it matter if there is no matching neutral shade in the stair carpet?

Is 100% wool or wool mix best? Smooth or textured? What shades would you recommend?

The bedroom walls are matt in either a cobalt blue or grey and the hall is white.

personally as long as you have a dividing bar between the carpets I don't think it matters if the colours don't complement each other. We have a mix of carpet colours and frankly I like it. ok if they clash terribly it wouldn't work so well but otherwise I don't see why it is a problem.

We have a striped carpet on the stairs and a plain pale grey on landing and in the bedrooms. The grey tones with one of the colours on the stair carpet. It worked much better that they matched because we used it on the landing. I wasn't sure about it but it works really well and the stripe would have been awkward to match on the landing.

Hello OP. We'll be having our upstairs landing and six bedrooms carpeted when our renovation is finished. I've finally decided on the right shade of greige and have gone for a 80/20 mix. I didn't want anything too shiny and it seems difficult to find that in a fully non-wool, bleach cleanable carpet unless you spend ££££. I'm having a runner made for the stairs in the same carpet but edged with a thick strip of charcoal material.
