Paint for a dark room?

Our attic room has languished unloved for a few years and needs some TLC. It's long, probably about 12 meters long and 7m wide but only has one relatively small north facing window at one end.

We're lucky there are exposed beams the length of the room but it can get pretty gloomy, and as the door is at the bottom of the staircase it gets very dark on the stairs too.

Any ideas for a paint colour which will help maximise the light in the room and stairwell? I was thinking maybe a light cream but open to suggestions!

I saw this link on another thread recently, it might help.

In rooms with sloped ceilings I would tend to recommend white paint on ceilings and walls and warm colour neutral paint on skirtings and entrance doors. If plenty of light you can go quite deep with this colour - ie Charlestone grey from F&B - or even moles breath or for less light filled rooms - A paler neutral - Hessian or Egyptian cotton

Add daylight bulbs in a couple of lamps that you have on a timer for daytime use - and use soft white bulbs in other lamps for evening use - this will help too !

Dulux do something called 'light and space' which has reflective pigments. Have tried a sample, but not sure what it would look like across a whole room.

'Mint Secret' from B&Q is a lovely bright shade.

Oh great suggestions thanks! Oneplan the room is currently white (albeit a bit grubby) and it's not really working for me - I guess a warm white would be best? Hadn't thought of daylight bulbs but will look them up!

Didus I'd not heard of light reflecting paint so will take a look thanks. Will look up mint secret thanks synechdoche
