Talk to me about stunt curtains

I'm finally replacing the curtains in the living room. They're currently sill length and a bit fugly. The plan is for blinds in the window recesses (it's two windows next to each other) and then a pair of full-length stunt curtains either side for show only, as they would muffle the radiator if drawn.

Do the stunt curtains need to be the full width of the window, do you think, or will that be too much fabric either side?

1.5 times the width of the window or they look too stingy.

Even if they won't be drawn?

Yes - you'd want double the width for proper curtains. Any less and they will look obviously as though they can't be drawn. I think one and a half times one of the windows, not the width of the two added together could work.

I have stunt curtains that never close. My fake curtains are not the width of the window & cant shut. My window is 270cm & each curtain is around 112cm so 50cm short of the width. It looks fine. We picked that as it's 1 width (of material) So it was easy to make the curtain up.
