It's for DD.

She has this print in wallpaper (which initially I loved, now I am not so keen on but it's up and it has to stay for at least another year).

We've inherited a 1950's kidney shaped dressing table. She already has a plain white stool. The table is white and all her other furniture is white.

The dresser has it's original curtain rail, and I'd like to make a new curtain for it. I've also half a mind to decoupage under the tabletop glass.

I have leftover wallpaper, or I can also get fabric in the same print. Or do something different - clashing or contrasting or tonal or whatever. What would you do?

I need inspiration!

I wouldn't paint the table itself, I would sand it back to the wood if that's possible and wax it. If not then maybe a nice cream paint? I'd use a contrasting fabric that picks out one of the colours in the paper under the glass and for the curtain (or even a different one for the curtain?)

You can get some lovely drawer knobs on eBay in lovely ceramic patterns as well.

Love those kidney shape tables, my grandmother had one.

We have dunelm /Dorma bird print paper and it came in two colour ways- beautiful birds is dunelm' own equivalent of that, so perhaps they do the same? Then you could pick out a colour for the curtains/top?

Thanks. I've just been to dunelm and got this contrasting fabric for the curtain - hard to see in a photo but it's a duck egg and cream ticking stripe. Think I'll paint it cream and then the handles will need changing they are dire. Still unsure under the glass though - plain paint, birds wallpaper decoupaged on or something else? I'll get a photo of the table in it's current state in a min (it's not pretty!!)

If it's like my gran's kidney one, you wouldn't need to decoupage, at least until you have tried it out. You could just cut a piece to size and lay it underneath?

That fabric looks lovely- duck egg and cream looks so fresh, it's one if my favourites.

Both with and without the current (!!!) curtain!

Love it!

You could mix and match handles like these?

Yes you're right - the glass isn't on 'stoppers' so it would hold the paper down. Good idea. Easier to change if she gets bored too!

I love little multi handles. Total mish mash behind the curtain would be fun...

I'll have a go this week and post 'after' photos Smile

You could paint inside the drawers in vibrant colours and the leave the outside neutral? I did it with a bureau and it is quite effective, the colours in the drawers match the colours on the knobs I used but it left the outside more conservative!
