Fitting lampshade- I am clueless

I am guessing this is a daft question, but I need help! How do I get this lampshade to fit this pendant hanging socket? (As pictured). The round bit in the lampshade is too big, can I buy something to make it smaller?

Isn't that shade for a table lamp?

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 19/06/2017 20:18

Turn off electricity
Take out bulb
Unscrew plastic bit where bulb fits in
Put little round metal bit of lampshade on where that plastic bit came off
Screw plastic bit back on
Replace bulb
Voila!

Oh dear ☹️ I really am clueless then! Can they be converted?

I did the unscrewing thing but the diameter of the lampshade attachment is too big. Is there a gizmo thing to make it fit?

You could be right Flogging, it does look sort of upside down. Some shades are convertible though (on phone and can't really tell)

Nanodust · 19/06/2017 20:24

They told me it would fit a pendant hanging- oh dear!

Maybe it will... In the picture, is it the right way up? I just assumed it was upsidedown for some reason. If the bulb will actually go inside the shade when it's hanging you'll be fine.
I learnt the hard way with a fabulous shade from Habitat. In their closing down sale Smile

Sanity check. Can you measure the size of the hole (inner diameter) of the shade fitting? If it's 26mm across it should fit. Standard table lamp fittings are the same size as pendants so either you've got a non-standard pendant fitting or the shade was made for Uzbekistan or somewhere.

Nanodust · 19/06/2017 20:34

Yes, it is the correct way up. The metal bit is at the top so not sure how it would fit a table lamp.... Tried to show with my finger where connection bit is

That centre doesn't look too big?

Nanodust · 19/06/2017 20:37

So it's a bit more than 26mm 😢😭

It's a Timorous Beasties one I picked up from someone having a house sale..... It would look lovely in the hall at the top of the stairs as when you look up you can see all the moths on the inside. So gutted that I am such a interiors fool

You can buy an adapter - try a hardware store.

Nanodust · 19/06/2017 20:42

Thank you- do you know what the adapter thingy would be called?

Yes you can buy little rings that fit sort of inside the one on the lampshade. Our local lighting/electrical shop sell them for about 50p. Can't remember what they are called but they knew what I wanted once I explained I had a lampshade that was too big for the fitting.

Nanodust · 19/06/2017 20:47

Thank you so much lovely MN interiors gurus, I salute you all 🙂
