Why in the love of god did people think this was a good idea? My mother just bought a house... pics included. Why???

My last house was covered in artex like that! My current house "just" has a more dainty style on the ceilings. Terrible stuff.

Work of the 👿...

I just don't get it! It hurts my eyes more than chintzy carpets! (Plenty of those too btw) are we just the smooth line OCD generation?

I have this crud on a couple of ceilings in my house.....as well as those horrific polystyrene tiles/crazy paving ceilings. Scared to investigate what it would cost to remove/replace.....

I've left it in the hall and landing. It's one of the more subtle versions (but definitely still artex!). It makes a lot of sense. Easy to repaint without needing to paper and small chips and cracks don't show the way they do in smooth plastered walls. Ditto finger marks.

I had the living room skimmed, which looked better when it was fresh but 15 years on has a number of hairline cracks.
